Amateurs [Aug. 24th, 2007|06:10 pm]
Just saw a very disturbing video over at [info]kalimar's page.

It is simply shameful the degredation of basic skills now seen in the leonine community, particularly in Southern Africa. Ever since the liberalization of the Krueger school district, young cubs have been wandering the veldt with little hunting ability and even less motivation. How can you expect them to take hunting seriously when their entire young lives everything has been staked out for them?

How is it *possible* that 5 lions are unable to subdue a single cape buffalo calf? And what sort of idiot neglects to get out of crocodile range during the dry season?? I won't even discuss the shameful flight from a herd of ungulates. Africa's Funniest Home Videos, perhaps, but not a testiment to the noble and honored profession of hunting cat.

This is exactly why the leonines, with their "I'm Simba king of the jungle I don't have to pay attention" attitudes are ruining game parks for the rest of us. You would never see a leopard act that way, or even a cheetah! And when you compare poorly to those cats, you know you're in trouble. Now an entire 4x4 of tourists has not only come away from safari unscathed, they seem to think that big cats can't even subdue a little hamburger on the hoof. Fabulous.

Best vacation ever! [Aug. 3rd, 2006|05:14 pm]
[mood |satisfiedsatisfied]

Where else can you dine on springbok carpaccio and kudu curry and still have waiter for dessert? Then you head out into the bush and find herds and herds of impala just waiting to be snack food. Hornbills, guinea fowl, kudu, lechwe, puku...I could go on and on. (And did...) Just fabulous!

I have only one complaint. Well, two actually.
1) Cheetahs and leopards are very different. The next tourist to call me a cheetah will learn this lesson up close and personal.

2) What's with the lion fascination? More anti-pardic sentiment if you ask me. They are annoying creatures with no personality who just lie around all day grooming themselves. BORING.

Now, can anyone figure out how to order that springbok stuff online?

One of my favorite days [Jun. 8th, 2006|08:59 am]
[mood |excitedexcited]

I must admit, today is one of my favorite days of the year. Living near Harvard dorms is always an advantage, hunting-wise, but there's nothing like a big line of people walking underneath trees while wearing large, enveloping robes. You can basically pick off distracted members of the herd at any time, and if you're seen, you just duck under one of those black robes for a second. Plus, they publish the route that they'll be walking. Right on the web! They may as well but a big black "x" mark on the tree next to Sever Hall and label it "leopard lair". That's my favorite tree, since it's right near the PhDs in Humanities, and you figure they don't have jobs yet, so no one will miss them for a while.

The bagpipes and the Dixieland band have already walked by the house, and it's getting late, so I should probably get in position.

We're going to DisneyWorld!

It's very exciting. We can go to Animal Kingdom, ride MY new ride, and best of all stay in a hotel with 24-hour prey buffet! We requested a zebra-feast room, hope that works out. You do not want to be the desk clerk who deprives us of our snack!

Things are definitely looking up. And best of all -- there's NO SNOW in Florida!

Boat drinks...something to keep us all warm [Jun. 3rd, 2006|06:32 pm]
[mood |grumpygrumpy]

Rain. All it ever does here is rain, and not a nice warm rain, a cold drippy rain that gets into your fur and freezes you. I'm staying in, which is fine, but does tend to translate to starvation. I have to go out *sometime* to grab a bite to eat and get the kinks out, but when?

On a separate note, I seem to have a terrible headache. I can only assume that it's due to catching a cold.

Cats on a Plane! [Jun. 1st, 2006|09:25 pm]
OK, so this pretty much sucks. I go all the way to New York today -- you know, just to look around, eat some street mimes (because it's a moral imperative) -- and then try to head back home. And naturally, there's storms.

So, I'm trapped in this metal tube for 2 and a half hours (and counting) while they decide whether or not to fly.

Airplanes are really *not* big-cat friendly. For one, they're way too crowded to just nab some guy and drag him off for a quick game of nip-and-devour. Plus, the shuttle doesn't carry any other food, so seasonings are really hard to come by.

And everybody's way too awake, so I don't really have free run of the plane anyway. Hmph. Grumble.

ETA: Oh.My.God. FOUR AND A HALF HOURS LATE?!? I'm so eating someone for this.

Discrimination! [May. 31st, 2006|07:15 pm]
[mood |aggravatedaggravated]

Adopt an elephant for Father's Day!
Adopt a tiger for Mother's Day!
Adopt a polar bear for Christmas!

Have you ever noticed that you never get cute little emails from the World Wildlife Fund to adopt a leopard?

Look at this! An entire page of cute, adoptable animals without a SINGLE leopard! Are we not sufficiently adorable to pander to the wallets of leftist Western guilt? Does no one wish to have (as their free gift) a little plush leopard to hug? This is yet another demonstration of the clear bias against spotted felines everywhere!

Hmph.

Brrrrr. It's freezing in here. Never give a snow leopard control of the thermostat.

This is a much better place to be.

Or even better, here. Right near the market. Yum...

Slim pickings [May. 31st, 2006|10:17 am]
[mood |hungryhungry]

Anyone want to come over for lunch?

Today is one of those days that highlights the plight of the urban leopard. It's too warm for people to huddle inside for warmth, but too cold for them to loiter outside and perhaps nap in the grass under a tree. At least the ground cover is starting to get lush.
